This year, we will once again be running a special programme for the Year 8’s. During group time the Year 8’s will have their own group time where they will explore different aspects of leadership, learn some games they can run with small groups and have some fun games and activities of their own. The Year 8’s small group time will be held at Hawthorn Church of Christ. After morning tea they will assist with year level groups during memory verse and craft time. In the afternoon, they will head off as a group, with their own leaders, to have some fun. Alternatively, they can join a year level group and spend time with the younger children in the afternoons if they would prefer. They may also have the opportunity to accompany the younger campers on some excursions.

There will be a special Day Camp dedication during the 6pm service on the Sunday night prior to Day Camp.  We strongly encourage all leaders (including Year 8’s) and their families to attend this service.

As leaders, the Year 8’s will be provided with a free Day Camp T-Shirt which they are required to wear throughout the week. This T-Shirt will be a different colour (red) to that of the other leaders although it will have the same design. This is simply so everyone is able to identify the Year 8’s and provide any assistance they may need. T-Shirts will be available for collection on the Sunday Night prior to Day Camp (Sunday 12 January) after the 6pm service.  Trial sizes will be available at Registration Day (Sunday 3 November).

Leaders need to be at the church at 8:30am each morning to ensure everything is ready to go. We encourage the Year 8’s to do the same. At the end of each day, the leaders get together for a meeting to relax and discuss the events of the day. It is important that Year 8’s are involved, as this will be a great opportunity to gain knowledge from more experienced leaders. For Year 8’s this will finish at 3:30pm or they are most welcome to stay with the rest of the leaders until 4:00pm. Younger siblings are more than welcome to stay to make pick-up easier for families.

CAMP CONCERT – FRIDAY 17 JANUARY (6:30pm – 7:45pm)

We encourage all the Year 8’s and their families to come along as it’s a great celebration to end the week and the leaders (including Year 8’s) always have a concert item to finish off the week.

TRAINING DAY – WEDNESDAY 8 JANUARY (10:00am – 2:30pm approx)

Prior to Day Camp there will be a training day for all leaders. This is a great opportunity for the Year 8’s to start mingling with the older Day Camp leaders. We’ll be finding out all the daily information, our responsibilities and the things that are new to Day Camp 2019, as well as developing our own leadership skills. We will spend the day at the church with morning tea & lunch.
