Day Camp Leaders

RESPONSIBILITIES
As leaders we must set the right example for the children.  This includes making sure you wear a hat whenever you are in the sun, abiding by all rules set out at the beginning of Day Camp and getting involved and being positive about the drama, music and all activities.  Leaders need to be at the church at 8:30am each morning to ensure everything is ready to go for the day.  At the end of each day, the leaders get together to eat, relax and discuss the events of the day.  This will finish at approximately 4pm and whilst we are aware that many leaders have paid work to go to it is important all leaders are able to attend.  If there are any problems with this, please speak to Jess. Please think carefully about the responsibilities you would like to undertake during the Day Camp week and mark these on the registration form.

TRAINING DAY – WEDNESDAY 10 JANUARY (10am – 2pm approx)
We will be finding out all the daily information, our responsibilities and the things that are new to Day Camp 2024. We will spend the day at the church with morning tea and lunch provided. Even if you have been in previous years, this day is extremely important for the effective running of the Day Camp week. If you can’t make it, please let Jess know ASAP.

SUNDAY NIGHT SERVICE – SUNDAY 14 JANUARY
There will be a special Day Camp dedication during the 6pm service on the Sunday night prior to Day Camp. We strongly encourage all leaders and their families to attend this service.

DAY CAMP SHIRTS
As leader, we will provide you with a free Day Camp shirt which you are required to wear throughout the week. Shirts will be available for collection on the Sunday night prior to Day Camp (Sunday 14 January) after the 6pm service. To help with sizing, please indicate on the registration form the measurements of your favourite shirt (length and width in cms).

DAILY ACTIVITIES
Every day each group is involved in some form of activity. This year these activities may include Bowling, Swimming, Gymnastics, Marion Outdoor Pool, Playground, Wheelchair Basketball, Games, Video, Performer and more. Some of these activities will require leader participation whilst others require supervision only.  Please make sure you find out the activities you will be doing each day so you can come prepared.

DRESS UP DAY!
Everyone is invited to come dressed in their own construction costume on the Thursday of Day Camp. Creativity is encouraged with homemade or low key costumes!

CAMP CONCERT – FRIDAY 19 JANUARY (6:30pm – 7:45pm)
This is a wonderful celebration of the week, so we hope you and your family are able to join us (it will also be securely live-streamed if you are unable to join us in person).

WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECKS (WWCC)
Every leader (aged 14 years and over) involved with Day Camp 2024, is required by law to have a current/active Working With Children Check (WWCC). Please note this is different to a Uniting Church Police Check, or a Police Check from any other organisations. If you do not have a WWCC, you will need to start the application process ASAP, as they take 6 weeks to process. If you do not apply for one before, you may not be able to be involved with Day Camp 2024. Start your application here: https://sa.uca.org.au/safechurch/screening/ or contact us to find out how to complete the WWCC process.
